1. Pack Layered Warm Clothing

Even in summer, Ladakh is cold — especially at night.

  • Must-carry items: Thermals, fleece jackets, windproof down jacket, gloves, woolen socks (2–3), muffler/cap, and good trekking shoes.

  • In winter, temperatures drop below -15°C in places like Pangong and Hanle.

2. Acclimatization is Key

  • Spend 1–2 days in Leh to acclimate before moving to higher regions like Nubra or Pangong.

  • Avoid alcohol and heavy exercise early on.

  • Carry Diamox (after medical consultation) to prevent AMS (Acute Mountain Sickness).

3. First Aid Essentials

Carry a custom first aid kit including:

  • Altitude medication (Diamox)

  • Pain relievers, anti-nausea meds

  • Band-aids, antiseptic cream

  • Prescription meds (with a doctor's note)

4. Petrol Stations are Sparse

  • No petrol pumps after Leh on routes to Pangong, Hanle, or Tso Moriri.

  • Top-up your tank in Leh and carry extra fuel in jerry cans.

  • In remote areas, fuel is sold at local shops for a higher price — reliable but plan wisely.

5. Carry Valid ID & Permits

  • Aadhar card/ID is mandatory.

  • For Nubra Valley, Pangong, Hanle, Tso Moriri — Inner Line Permits (ILPs) are required (obtainable online or in Leh).

  • Foreign nationals need Protected Area Permits (PAPs).

6. Drive or Ride Carefully

  • Roads are narrow, steep, and often broken.

  • If you're biking, always wear a helmet, gloves, and knee guards.

  • Be patient at landslides or rockfall zones.

  • Avoid riding after sunset — most accidents happen in the dark.

7. Connectivity & Power Backup

  • Only BSNL and Jio postpaid work in Leh and nearby areas.

  • Beyond that, connectivity is nearly zero.

  • Always carry a power bank, flashlight, and offline maps (like Google Maps downloaded in advance).

8. Respect Local Culture and Environment

  • Ladakh is are deeply spiritual and environmentally aware.

  • Don’t litter, avoid plastic, and respect religious sites.

  • Carry reusable water bottles and dispose of waste responsibly.
